MGA Consulting Ghana Limited (MGA Consulting), was contracted by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, under the “Women SME Innovation Programme: Digitalize for Jobs (D4J)” project to undertake hands-on training for women-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana. The objective of the project was to provide support to 400 women-owned Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to increase operational efficiency and business growth leading to job creation.
The training resources developed included a detailed training timetable, interactive PowerPoint slides with infographics, training exercises, and activities. Training certificates were presented to participants at the end of every session in the various regions of Ghana.
Two groups of participants were identified for this training program: Heads of various Business Advisory Centers (BAC), and Owners of selected SMEs. Training of Trainers (ToT) session was held for Business Advisory Center (BAC) heads of GEA across the country, whilst the main (SMEs) participants were taken through various modules to provide them with first-hand information and assistance during and after the training session.
The facilitators employed various training methods including lecture presentations, scenario discussions, and question-and-answer sessions to make the training practical and interactive. The training program provided a unique opportunity for the participants to tap into the wealth of experience of the facilitators in demonstrating effective strategies for initiating and strengthening digitalization in their businesses.
The training program was evaluated in two phases: In-Training Exercises in the form of scenario-based discussions and activities, and a Post-Training Assessment through an online evaluation form. Participants gave positive feedback and expressed willingness to learn and adopt key strategies to improve their businesses. They were also ready to implement the strategies shared to sustain and grow their businesses. The participants shared ideas and experiences related to the subject matter and exhibited teamwork by assisting their colleagues during the program.
